The Intelligent Digital Infrastructures project is a collaborative initiative at the University of Toronto which will develop digital infrastructures that are affordable and available to all, regardless of geographic and socio-economic context

PROJECT GOALS

Just & equitable digital infrastructure (jedi)

Reimagine how future computer networks and the Internet at large could or should operate using far more processing power, storage capacity, and machine intelligence inside network devices

Develop new network architectures, protocols and algorithms for just and equitable Intelligent Digital Infrastructures (IDI) that can serve all segments of society

JEDI INITIATIVES

  1. Examine global literature on the digital divide and create system map of internet service ecosystem in Canada

  2. Engage with Black and Indigenous communities and organizations in Canada to understand individual and community level network technology gaps/needs

  3. Work with technology developers and network service providers to understand technological, social, and economic factors impacting equipment development and service availability

  4. Engage with provincial government representative to understand how policy and regulation shape balance between user needs and service availability

  5. Test CENIT technologies with community-partners and asses fit between functionality and community needs
